The member representing Oyi/ Ayamelum federal constituency, Hon. Barr. Vincent Ekenechukwu Ofumelu has urged governments at all level to invest massively in the future of Nigerian youths. He said investment in the future of the youths is a catalyst for national development.
Ofumelu stated this when a coalition of Nigerian youths under the aegis of Youth Goal-for- Peace Project recognized him with a trophy of outstanding leadership excellence.
“I want thank you all for your resilience and strength of patriotism. Nigeria is a nation we must build collectively. Whether you’re Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba. But, we cannot achieve greatness without investment. The challenges of unemployment, youth restiveness and banditry should be urgently addressed by investing more in the future of the youths.”
“Personally, I have a lot of youths under my scholarship, some got federal jobs and many were empowered through human capacity development but, I’m urging those in leadership positions to do more.”
“#ENDSARS protest is the result of accumulated anger of the Nigerian youths over decades of failure in the delivery of basic social services, unemployment, systemic corruption, impunity of political office by those in powers and disobedience to the rule of law which has precipitated distrust and lack of confidence in the state and its institutions.”
The coalition of Nigerian youth were made up: National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS), National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), National Association of Nigerian Youths and Students(NANYS), and Northern Nigerian Youths Movement for Peace and Development( NNYMPD).
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Comrade Humphrey Kalu said they were impressed with Hon. Barr. Vincent Ekenechukwu Ofumelu’s leadership acumen, quality representation and humility.
“Our activities includes protecting the welfare, rights and interest of the Nigerian youth, promote good governance and sustainable peace across the nation.”
“We usually carry out work progress and impacting assessments for both public and private office holders and for those who have contributed to the Nigerian youths and the less privileged and they saw a need after series of screening to them.”
