The Labour Party (LP) has dismissed the 1, 234 names released to spearhead the Peter Obi and Yusuf Baba-Ahmed Presidential Campaign Council for the 2023 general election. A former Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr Doyin Okupe was named Director-General of the campaign council while a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Mohammed Zarewa was named as the council’s chairman. The Labour Party has named a former Attorney General of Abia State, Chief Umeh Kalu (SAN) as the Abia State Coordinator of Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council. The party also returned Doyin Okupe, former Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan as the Director General. Ahead of March 2023 gubernatorial election in Abia State, a chieftain of the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Mr Ndubisi Etugo Ogah, has approached the Federal High Court, Umuahia, asking the court to stop the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from fielding Prof Uche Ikonne as the party’s governorship candidate for the election.
