Speakers of states’ houses of assemblies from North-west Nigeria have endorsed the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, for president in the 2023 general election, Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos Assembly has said. A statement issued by Mr Obasa’s media office Saturday said the speakers pledged their support at a meeting held at Kano on Friday. A former speaker from Kano, Abdullahi Yanshana, reportedly said “95 per cent of the votes from Kano in 2023 will be in favour of the national leader of the APC”, the statement said. The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the ongoing Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency bye-election, Chimaobi Ebisike has expressed confidence of winning the election. Speaking after casting his vote, Ebisike said the report he is receiving from different centres indicate that the PDP is in clear lead. “I have never had any doubt of winning this election. The Governor has done so well that the people are eager to repay his Party and my humble self with victory. So I’m not surprised that reports from the fields indicate we are leading”, he said.  

Chief Onyebuchi Ememanka, Chief Press Secretary to the Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) does not need to involve in any form of electoral malpractice to win the Aba North and Aba South bye-election. He stated this at Aba North Ward 9 in Osusu Town Hall, while reacting to the allegation that the PDP has hijacked electioneering materials for Ogbor Hill Area and Environs. He said any sane person would know Aba is a Pro-PDP area, adding that the government is committed to record a free, fair and credible election.
