The Speaker of the Niger House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji, says the decision to marry off 100 orphaned girls in his constituency is to prevent fornication. Mr Sarkin-daji denied forcing 100 orphaned girls into marriage as part of his constituency project. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, had petitioned the Inspector General of Police on the matter. Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has decried the substantial debt burden inherited from the previous administration of Nyesom Wike, saying most of the projects commissioned in the state were not fully funded.
