The member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chief Ibe Okwara Osonwa, has disclosed plans to commence palliative repair work on the collapsed Igwu bridge, along Bende-Abam -Ohafia road. Rep Osonwa, disclosed this through a post on his verified Facebook page on Saturday evening. According to him, the palliative repair work became necessary to “forestall a major disaster”, since the federal government was yet to fund the 2024 budget for the reconstruction of the bridge. President Bola Tinubu has approved N70,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers, promising to review the national minimum wage law every three years. Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information, announced this at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, on Thursday. According to Idris, the president made the announcement at the ongoing meeting with leaders of the organised labour. Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and Comrade Festus Usifo, President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), are at the meeting alongside some members of their unions. Before the meeting, labour leaders had insisted on N250,000 minimum wage.  

Members of the House of Representatives have agreed to cut their salaries by 50 percent for six months as part of their solidarity and sacrifice to support the economic hardship and hunger Nigerians are going through at the moment. The Federal Government has directed that admission to tertiary institutions should not be given to candidates under 18 years old. The Minister of Education, Mister Tahir Mamman, gave the directive in Abuja on Thursday at the 2024 Policy meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). The landing cost of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, was N1,117/litre as of Tuesday, July 16, 2024, the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria announced on Wednesday.
