Pandemonium broke out on Saturday at Idiroko, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State when some Yoruba nation agitators stormed the area and forcefully opened its land border. The Abia state headquarters of Nigeria Immigration Services is reportedly under attack by yet-to- be identified armed men. The incident which occured Saturday evening threw the state capital into pandemonium as residents scampered for safety heavy exchange of fire between police and the assailants. Columns of thick smoke emanating from the facility located along Uzuakoli Road Umuahia could be sighted from different locations of the city. Some 14 abducted students of Greenfield University in Kaduna State have been released. According to a report by Channels, they were released on Saturday afternoon at a location along the Kaduna- Abuja highway. The Chairman of the Parents Forum, Markus Zarmai and few others were expected to receive the students at the drop-off location. Although, the government and police authorities are yet to confirm the development, the parents of the abducted students said that they paid ransom, in addition to providing eight new motorcycles to the kidnappers before they agreed to release their children.

Gunmen believed to be members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), on Saturday, razed the Atta Divisional Police Headquarters in the Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State. The federal government yesterday defended its choice of Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS), while also revealing plans to immortalise the former COAS, late General Ibrahim Attahiru and others that perished in a plane crash about a week ago in Kaduna State. The governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi Friday dissolved his cabinet, the first since he took over in 2015. Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kenneth Ugbala, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting. Ugbala said only 23 out of the 106 members of the council were retained. He added that the dissolution will come in phases. “The governor took the decision in order to reorganize the council for optimal performance”, he said.
