The Independent National Electoral Commission has said that its office in Essien Udim Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State has been set ablaze. This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye Esq. The statement said the security guard at the INEC office escaped unhurt, stressing that the buidling and properties suffered extensive destruction. Unknown gunmen has allegedly killed a police officer at Abaomege Police Station in Onicha Local Government Area on Saturday night. The gunmen attacked Abaomege Police Station, a boarder town between Ebonyi and Cross River State on Saturday night. A police source, who confirmed the attack, said the gunmen attacked the station with dangerous arms. “Yes some unknown gunmen attacked Abomege police station and a policeman was killed while another was hospitalized following injuriew sustained in the attack,” the source stated. Unknown gunmen have killed Solomon Adebayo, Kogi State Commissioner for Pensions. He was  reportedly killed while travelling to Kabba area from Ilorin on Saturday evening. Kogi Police Spokesman, William Ayah said the assailants opened fire on Mr Adebayo’s vehicle along the road, killing him on the spot while severely wounding his driver. The police said an investigation would be carried out to track and arrest those behind the deadly assault. Yoruba Nation agitators clashed with men of the Ogun state police command on Saturday after 11 of the agitators were arrested for defying the police ban on the mass rally in Abeokuta. The group had organised the rally to push for a separate nation called Oduduwa Republic, mainly by people of the Southwest geo-political zone which is predominantly Yorubas. In what seems to be a coordinated attacks on security operatives in the south-east and south-south geo-political zones, two police officers were again killed on Saturday by some unknown gunmen who attacked a police facility in Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria’s South-south. It was indeed a black Saturday after a  brakeless truck lost control and ran into a market in Imo on Saturday afternoon, killing at least 20 women. The accident happened at Nkwommiri Market, near Nwangele River in Umuozu community of Imo. It was gathered that the truck which was descending a hill lost control killing atleast 20 women after ramming into other vehicles. Imo governor Hope Uzodimma has attributed the spate of attacks in the state to the handiwork of those he described as disgruntled politicians who are afraid of his achievements in the state.
