Armed men suspected to be robbers invaded the residences of two senior aides to President Muhammadu Buhari inside the precinct of the Presidential Villa, administration officials and security sources have told Peoples Gazette, raising fears that the rising insecurity across the country was drawing closer to the elite than previously estimated. The Federal Government has re-introduced a nationwide 12am to 4am curfew to curtail further spread of COVID-19. The National Incident Manager, Mukhtar Mohammed, disclosed this at the briefing of the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 in Abuja. Mohammed said the curfew would take effect from midnight on Monday. He also said with effect from Tuesday, night clubs, gyms and others would remain closed till further notice. He said gatherings of religious groups and weddings among others have been reduced to 50 percent attendance while official engagements, meetings and conferences should continue to hold virtually.

The federal government has declared Wednesday, May 12 and Thursday, May 13, public holidays to celebrate Eidul-Fitr. Eidul-Fitr is a Muslim festival to celebrate the end of Ramadan fast. Unknown gunmen have attacked the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ohafia local government area of Abia state. No fewer than 40 Muslim worshippers were abducted by armed bandits while observing Tahajjud, a kind of midnight prayer observed during the Holy Month of Ramadan, at a mosque in Jibiya town of Katsina State. According to residents of the town, dozens of gunmen struck at the mosque around 2am on Monday and took away the worshippers. Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has reacted to the recent attacks on police formations and killing of officers in the State.
