June12: Police Teargas ‘Buhari Must Go’ Protesters In Abuja

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force on Saturday morning dispatched a group of June 12 protesters in Gudu area, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, firing teargas canisters in the process. Sources say the protest started around 08:30 am and had been going smoothly with the protesters, mostly youths, expressing their dissatisfaction at the state of the nation. The protesters who were chanting ‘Buhari must go”, “Say no to injustice”, scampered for their safety when the security operatives started shooting. Recall that the Nigerian Police as well as the federal government had warned citizens against staging any protest on Democracy Day.

No fewer than 67 persons have been killed following attacks by suspected bandits on some villages in Zurmu Local Government Area of Zamfara State. President Muhammadu Buhari has replaced Professor Armstrong Idachaba, acting Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC). Idachaba was replaced with Mr Balarabe Shehu Ilelah, a veteran broadcaster. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, announced the appointment of Ilelah in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday. He said Mr. Ilelah’s appointment is for a tenure of five years in the first instance. Idachaba’s removal was announced four days after he ordered all broadcast stations in the country to go off Twitter.
