Governors of the 17 southern states have unanimously agreed that the next President of Nigeria should emerge from their region, puncturing the ambition of prominent politicians from the North. Sani Yabagi, the national chairman of Action Democratic Party (ADP) has said that governors of southern extraction are behaving like Sunday Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu in their gang up against President Muhammadu Buhari and entire northerners. Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs Maryam Katagum, on Monday slumped while on an official engagement in Bauchi State. The minister, who was in Bauchi to launch an empowerment programme held at Sanin Malam Plaza in Bauchi, suddenly slumped as she tried to deliver her speech at the ceremony and was rushed to the Trauma Centre of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) for medical attention. The next President of the country, the southern states governors have agreed, must be from the South. This was part of the decisions reached at the meeting of the southern states governors today (Monday) in Lagos. According to the communiqué released, the forum also deliberated on insecurity, constitutional amendment, PIB and anti-open grazing law in all member-states. The forum commended lawmakers for the passage of PIB, but rejected in 3% set for the host communities. Also, the governors unanimously chose Lagos State as their permanent Secretariat.  

The Southern Governors’Forum, SGF, on Monday, insisted that any law enforcement agency carrying out an operation in any of the states in the South must take permission from the state governor, who is the chief security officer of the state just as it insisted the next President of the country should emerge from the South. Governors of the southern region are holding a meeting in Lagos on the state of the nation. The meeting is a follow-up on the earlier meeting in Asaba hosted by the Delta state Governor where the governors agreed on far-reaching conclusions on open grazing, restructuring Nigeria, and calls for state police. Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has started receiving the governors at Alausa, Ikeja, the venue of their meeting. Makinde Appoints Ogunwuyi As Chief Of Staff Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has named Honourable Segun Ogunwuyi as his Chief of Staff. A letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mrs. Olubamiwo Adeosun, confirmed Ogunwuyi’s appointment. The appointment takes immediate effect.
