Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won 17 of the 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the Osun State governorship election. Incumbent Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), however, won in the remaining 13 LGAs. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the results of the governorship election conducted on Saturday by local governments. In total Oyetola of the APC polled 375,027 votes while Adeleke of the PDP claimed 403,371 votes. The Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has been admitted in hospital over leg injury sustained during sporting activity. Mr Osinbajo announced this on his verified Facebook page, saying he sustained the injury while playing squash. “I have been admitted today at the hospital for a surgical procedure on account of a recurrent pain in the leg possibly sustained from an injury while playing squash,” he posted.

Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has lost the Government House polling unit in Osogbo to Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In the governorship election score sheet for Agowande/ Oshogbo GRA/ Governor’s office polling unit in Olorunda Local government prepared by Assistant Polling Officer (APO1), Nwachukwu Henrietta Chidinma, PDP scored 117 votes while APC got 106 votes. Other parties and their scores are Accord Party 2, APM 1, PRP 1 and SDP 1.

Yusuf Lasun, governoship candidate of the Labour Party has won his polling unit in the ongoing governorship poll. He polled 177 votes from his polling unit situated at ward 5, Unit 4, Irepodun Local Government Area. His closest rival, Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had 199 votes while Ademola Adeleke of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 98 votes. Lasun is a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Osun Governor Gboyega Oyetola has won his polling unit in the ongoing governorship poll. The polling unit has 1457 registered voters. The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate polled 545 votes from his polling unit situated at ward 1, LA school, Popo, Iragbiji in Boripe Local Government Area. His closest rival, Ademola Adeleke of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had 69 votes. There were eight invalid votes recorded.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the election in the polling unit of its pioneer national chairman, Bisi Akande. Mr Akande voted at his Polling Unit, Ward 4, Ita Aewogbade, Ila-Orangun Local Government Area. At the end of counting of votes, the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Ademola Adeleke scored 117 votes while Governor Gboyega Oyetola of APC got 140 votes.

Governor Gboyega Oyeola of Osun State won Ward 8, unit 1, Isare Ifofin, Ilesa East Local Government Area of Osun State in Saturday’s election. The governor, who is seeking reelection under the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured 164 votes while his closest rival, Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), trailed with 134 votes. Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Minister of Interior, who shunned the election, would have cast his ballot at the polling unit. Aregbesola, a two term governor of Osun, is the predecessor of Oyetola.

The running mate of Bola Tinubu, the ruling All Progressives Congress’ presidential candidate, Senator Kashim Shettima, has said the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, can only be President in Igbo land and not over Nigeria. The former Borno State Governor stated this on Friday, while featuring on a television programme of Channels TV. Shettima, whose nomination as a running mate of the APC presidential candidate, Tinubu, attracted condemnation, made some chieftains of the party to resign.
