BENUE State governor Samuel Ortom has alleged that armed Fulani herdsmen cannot be brought to book for violent attacks on agrarian communities across the country because of a Federal Government order prohibiting security agents from apprehending and arraigning them. In an interview with The ICIR, the governor said those being referred to as bandits are members of Miyetti Allah. The Court of Appeal in Abuja has restored the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Oborevwori Sheriff Francis Orohwedor as the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 governorship election in Delta State. The appellate court on Monday voided and set aside the judgment of the Federal High Court which on July 7, 2022, nullified his nomination on ground of certificate forgery and perjury. The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has extended the ongoing strike. ASUU extended the strike during its National Executive Council, NEC, meeting in Abuja. A lecturer with the University of Calabar, UNICAL, who disclosed this to Daily Post, said: “ASUU has extended the strike again. This government has refused to pay us, so we can’t go back to classes. “I currently have over one thousand scripts in my house, both marked and unmarked, I can’t attend to them because this government is owing me six months.” ASUU has been on strike since February 2022 over a disagreement in past…

A Federal High Court in Abuja has declined the extradition application filed by the Federal Government for permission to extradite the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari to the United States (US). Justice Inyang Ekwo, in a judgment on Monday held that the extradition application was an abuse of court process, on the grounds that Kyari was already standing a criminal trial before a Nigerian court. The US authorities had applied to the Nigerian government for Kyari's extradition in relation to his alleged link with suspected international fraudster, Ramon Abbas (hushpuppi).
