The police in Rivers State have arrested a 400-level student of Petrochemical Engineering at the University of Port Harcourt, Demain Okoligwe, for allegedly killing his girlfriend and harvesting her organs at his residence along NTA Road, Ozuoba, near Port Harcourt. The victim, Justina Otuene, a 300-level undergraduate also at UNIPORT, was studying Biochemistry. The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the victory of President Bola Tinubu in the February 25 presidential election. The apex court in its ruling dismissed the appeals by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar and his Labour Party (LP) counterpart Peter Obi. The Supreme Court says the failure by the Independent National Electoral Commission to transmit election results electronically did not affect the outcome of the election and could not warrant the nullification of the result of the presidential election. Asari said this while reacting to controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Gumi’s call for Nyesom Wike to be removed as FCT Minister. The immediate-past chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdurasheed Bawa, has been released from detention. Bawa was arrested by the Department of State Service (DSS) on June 14, 2023, hours after his suspension from office as EFCC Chairman by President Bola Tinubu over alleged abuse of office. Since his arrest and detention, the Secret Police didn’t formally prefer any charge against him or say his specific offence. He was released on Wednesday night from detention.
