The Emir of Lafiagi, Saadu Kawu Haliru, has died. The monarch, it was gathered, passed on in an undisclosed hospital in Abuja around a few minutes to 6 pm Thursday. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, in Kebbi says it has arrested 89 suspected drug dealers and seized 2, 800 tonnes of illicit drugs and psychotropic substances within six months in the state. The Police Command in Cross River has arrested the Pastor of United Evangelical Church, Michael Bassey, 45, for unlawful possession of human skull. It also apprehended 25 other suspects for various offences committed in the state. Soldiers in the early hours of Monday thwarted an attack on Faith Academy, a secondary school owned by Living Faith Church Worldwide, founded by Bishop David Oyedpo. The school is not far from a boarding school where many students were abducted in the Chikun local government area of Kaduna State. Suspected bandits, on Monday morning, stormed Bethel Secondary School, Maramara Chickun Local Government Area of Kaduna State and kidnapped scores of students. Bethel Secondary School is a boarding school located at the outskirts of Kaduna. According to Mr. Daniel Muhuta, a security guard in the school, “I escaped narrowly. They came around 1.00am and started shooting. Armed bandits have killed seven people in the last 72 hours in Chikun, Kajuru and Giwa local government areas of Kaduna State. Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, who confirmed the incidents in a statement yesterday, said the developments were reported to the state government by security agencies yesterday. A teenage girl has been killed by stray bullets around Ojota, Lagos, where the police forcefully dispersed Yoruba nation protesters on Saturday. According to residents, the victims was killed by bullets fired by policemen who dispersed protesters. Witnesses said the deceased simply identified as Jumoke was getting set for the day’s activities at a store where she sold drinks when she was hit by stray bullets. Gunshots have been fired by policemen present at the Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota, Lagos as the Yoruba nation rally begins. This was after the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, addressed journalists at the venue saying no rally is allowed in Lagos. However, some Yoruba nation agitators dared the security operatives by spreading banners and flyers to announce their arrival and presence. A few minutes later, shots were fired and hot water from an armoured tank was sprayed to disperse them. Some of the agitators were seen getting dragged into an armoured tank by policemen.
