The Global President, One Love Foundation, Chief Patriot Patrick Osagie Eholor has called on Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State to take bold steps to tackle the challenges confronting the state, which include economic instability, insecurity, and other burning issues, instead of trying to intimate Edolites with ‘Compulsory Covid-19 Vaccination’.
Eholor stated this in a chat with journalists while reacting to the fresh restrictions slammed by Governor Obaseki.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony of the second phase of the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination exercise held at the Government House, Benin City, Obaseki said,”Beginning from the second week of September 2021, large gatherings, as well as high traffic public and private places will only be accessed by persons, who have proof of taking at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccination. People who have not yet been vaccinated at all will depend on remote access to these gatherings.
“From the second week of September people may not be allowed to worship in churches and mosques without showing proof of their vaccination cards at the gates. Similarly, people will not be allowed to event centers, receptions or parties, without showing proof of their vaccination cards.
“People will not be allowed to access banking services from the middle of September 2021, if they are not vaccinated. We have made adequate arrangements with security agencies to prevent anybody, who doesn’t have vaccination cards to access any of these places. We are doing this to protect our citizens and all these measures will remain until the pandemic passes away,” the governor noted.
But reacting to the new rules, Eholor admonished Obaseki to always put the people first. He advised the governor to properly form a robust and proactive cabinet to help tackle the high level of insecurity and hunger ravaging Edo State.
According to Eholor, Edo people shouldn’t be forced to be vaccinated because the government didn’t force palliative on them when it was given to Edo people.
“COVID-19 vaccination is not our major problem in Edo state. Kidnapping, insecurity everywhere, our farmers can’t go to farms, travellers are at the mercy of kidnappers, how many persons have been reported dead due to hunger compare to the rate of deaths associated with insecurity and Covid in Edo? Governor Obaseki is talking about vaccination, I’m not saying we shouldn’t take it , government should have more programs that will benefit its citizens.
“How would you verify Covid-19 certificate? Talk is cheap. Maybe they want to frustrate the ordinary citizens again.
“I encourage all of you to take Covid-19 vaccination for their own benefit but it shouldn’t be forceful like the way Governor Obaseki is sounding; after all, when palliative was brought to Edo state for the poor, they hid it in a warehouse. They didn’t force it on Edo people.”
Correct sir,can pls someone point to one thing Obaseki has done for this state even in this 2 nd tenure
