A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Emeka Kalu has called on feuding parties in the Anambra state chapter of the PDP to sheath their sword and embrace peace in the interest of the party.
Kalu stated this in a statement signed by him and obtained by THE WHISPERER, while reacting to the outcome of the just concluded PDP governorship primary election that saw the emergence of eminent businessman, Mr. Val Ezigbo, saying that if the different factions and groups do not unite, it may have its toll on the fortune of the party come November, 2021 guber election.
“Giving the situation on ground and a thorough analysis of the party’s primary election; It has come and gone and a winner has emerged. As a chieftain and coordinator of this great party’s Coalition body, I had warned seriously of the need for our party ensure carefulness in choosing the candidate for the governorship election. I warned of the danger of money bag politics and the fragility of most aspirants. I warned against internal rancour as most aspirants would be rocking the boat and running away and today, the resultant effects of the warnings had manifested. In party politics, you can’t predict the mind of men because interest is always their focus and today, it is noticeable that some contestants of the ticket had felt being cheated and then arranging their personal belongings to leave the party like an aggrieved woman whose husband had been up mercilessly.
“We are all hereby advised to join hands together to ensure that this great party does not loose general election, come 6th November, 2021. I strongly advise that all stakeholders must drop their grievances and work together as a united body to support the candidacy of Mr. Valetine Ozigbo who emerged the flag bearer of the party. This unity of purpose will make other parties who are mocking PDP to see the common love and solidarity in us and know that PDP is bound to take the day.”
Kalu further advised the winner of the primary election, Mr Val Ozigbo to be magnanimous and carry others along in the spirit of sportsmanship.
“Furthermore, the flag bearer must see this opportunity given him to run for the office as a people oriented mandate and not his personal cleverness. Ndi Anambra want “Change” for development and that is why we are here today working out modalities to ensure that the ” Change’ desired is achieved.”
He warned against defection by aspirants, noting that such actions may dwindle the chances of the party.
“Aggrieved aspirants abandoning the party is an evidence of party disloyalty; gross anti party activity that make one lose trust and confidence one enjoys from the public.
“In conclusion, we must carry out campaign and youth mobilization in a way that convinces the electorates that PDP is bent on developing Anambra and protection of lives and properties. I wish the Hon Val Ozigbo a good standing, consistency and victory in the entire exercise. I also encourage him to run an inclusive government when elected into office and ensure he leads Anambra state to a great glory of excellence,” he said.
