The federal government has declared Wednesday, May 12 and Thursday, May 13, public holidays to celebrate Eidul-Fitr.

Eidul-Fitr is a Muslim festival to celebrate the end of Ramadan fast.

Interior minister Rauf Aregbesola made the announcement on Monday in Abuja.

“The Federal Government has declared Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th May, 2021 as Public Holidays to mark this year’s Eidul-Fitr celebration” the Ministry of Interior said in a statement.

The minister commended Muslims and implored all Nigerians to use this period of Eidul-Fitr celebration to pray for peace, stability and economic transformation of the country.

He acknowledged the recent insecurity the country has been going through and assured the public that President Muhammadu Buhari will take action to curtail the situation.

“We are therefore putting necessary measures and strategies in place to strengthen the stability of the country as well as ensuring economic prosperity of our dear nation,” he said.

The minister wished all the Muslims a happy and peaceful celebration.
