Stakeholders in Abia State have commended the member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, over his planned mega empowerment and poverty alleviation programme scheduled for April 2, 2026.

The programme, which will take place at the Ohafia Local Government Area Secretariat, Ebem Ohafia, by 11:00am, is expected to attract top government officials, community leaders and thousands of beneficiaries from across the constituency.

The initiative will focus on empowering women and youths through the distribution of buses, tricycles, tractors and other tools aimed at supporting small businesses and improving livelihoods.

Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, is expected as Special Guest of Honour, while the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, will attend as Guest of Honour. Hon. Osonwa will serve as Chief Host.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Entertainment and Tourism, Dr. Martins Okey Justice E, popularly known as Jmartins, described the programme as a major step towards grassroots development.

“Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa has once again shown that leadership is about impact. This empowerment programme is not only commendable but also timely, considering the current economic realities. It clearly shows his passion for the welfare of his constituents,” he said.

He urged residents of Ohafia and Arochukwu to take advantage of the opportunity, adding that the programme would bring lasting benefits to many families.

Hon. Onyema Iro from Ohafia described the initiative as unprecedented.

“This is the first time we are witnessing such a large-scale empowerment programme in Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency. It shows that Hon. Osonwa understands the needs of the people,” he said.

Councillor representing Ebem Oha Ward, Elvis Ukariwe, also praised the lawmaker for his commitment to the community.

“Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa genuinely loves his people. This programme will lift thousands out of poverty and give many families a new source of income,” he said.

Chief Kalu Kalu from Ihechiowa in Arochukwu Local Government Area said the programme stands out since 1999.

“Since 1999, no House of Representatives member has done what Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa is about to do. This is historic for our constituency,” he said.

Mrs Mary Kalu, a trader from Ozu Abam, said the focus on women and youths would help reduce unemployment.

“Targeting over 5,000 women and youths is a big step. This will help many of us grow our businesses and support our families,” she said.
