Omenuko Was Constructed By Otti, FG Didn’t Claim It, But Tinubu’s Many Achievements Undiminished – Abia Govt
The Abia State Government has clarified that the Omenuko Bridge and other major infrastructure projects in the state were executed entirely by the state under Governor Alex Otti, and not by the Federal Government.
The Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, in a post on his Facebook page yesterday while reacting to the comments made by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Benjamin Kalu, that President Tinubu constructed the Omenuko Bridge and other road projects in the state, said:
“Omenuko Bridge was started and completed by Abia State Government led by Governor Alex Otti. It was done simultaneously with the very strategic Arochukwu–Ndi Okereke–Ozuabam road. The Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene road was awarded by Abia State Government led by Governor Alex Otti. All these are public knowledge and verifiable.”
Ekeoma added: “No representative of the Federal Government, whether ministers or spokespersons, has ever claimed that any of the aforementioned projects was done or is being done by the FG. This does not diminish the many achievements of the President or the Federal Government in any way.”
The media aide criticised the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, for allegedly misrepresenting facts during his party’s State Congress, saying:
“The history of these projects is still fresh in the minds of Abians, yet Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, in his usual unguarded and reckless manner, mounted the podium and falsely claimed that the projects were being done by the Federal Government.”
He further described Kalu’s conduct as “dishonourable” and said: “Kalu’s hubris always drives him to the mountain top of invincibility and irrationality, hence he forgets that it’s disingenuous and dishonourable for a supposed Honourable and Federal Lawmaker to derive joy in lying effortlessly, misleading the public with unbelievable audacity.”
Ekeoma accused Kalu of playing “ignoble politics” by repeatedly dragging the name of the President against Governor Otti and Abia State, saying: “His disrespectful penchant for telling audacious lies on sensitive issues presents him as a coward who is neither convinced of what he wants nor confident in himself. Leadership is such a serious business to be left in the hands of jesters.”
The statement concluded that while the clarification highlights the role of the Abia State Government in these projects, it in no way undermines the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or the Federal Government.
