President Bola Tinubu has nominated Enugu State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN, as a cabinet minister.

Udeh is a possible replacement for Godfrey Uche Nnaji, who resigned as Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology on October 7, 2025.

Tinubu’s letter conveying Udeh’s nomination was read by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, at plenary on Tuesday.

Nnaji resigned his position in the heat of the scandal that trailed allegations of certificate forgery leveled against him.

The 45-year-old nominee was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria last July.

President Tinubu, in his letter to the Senate, urged the lawmakers to treat the request with the usual speed.

The President, in the letter, hinged the appointment on Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and sought expeditious consideration by the Senate.

“In compliance with the provisions of Section 147, Subsection 2 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, I am pleased to forward to the Senate the nomination of Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh for confirmation as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“While I hope that this request will receive the usual expeditious consideration of the Senate, please accept, Distinguished Senate President and Distinguished Senators, the assurances of my highest regards,” the President’s letter read.

Akpabio referred the nominee to the Committee of the Whole Senate for screening and possible confirmation.

No specific date was fixed for Udeh to appear before the senators.
