The President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter, Chief Andrew Ugwu, has advised all members of the organisation and Igbo residents in Abuja to desist from participating in the planned protest scheduled for the 20th of October, 2025.
Chief Ugwu, in a statement issued in Abuja, acknowledged the genuine concerns surrounding the continued detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, but emphasised that a protest at this time may not be the most effective or safest means to express those concerns.
He noted that while Ohanaeze Ndigbo FCT fully supports every lawful call for justice and equity, it remains deeply concerned about the potential security risks such demonstrations might pose, especially considering recent national tensions.
“We must not forget the unfortunate events of the End SARS protest, which was hijacked by hoodlums and led to the looting and destruction of numerous Igbo-owned businesses and properties within the FCT,” Chief Ugwu warned.
“History must not repeat itself. Our people’s safety and wellbeing come first.”
Chief Ugwu reaffirmed the organisation’s unwavering support for the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, noting that Ohanaeze Ndigbo FCT will continue to pursue this cause through constructive dialogue, diplomatic channels, and peaceful engagement with the relevant authorities.
He urged all members and Igbo residents in the FCT to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding, stressing that the struggle for justice must be guided by wisdom, patience, and unity.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo FCT remains committed to the peace, unity, and progress of the Igbo people in the Federal Capital Territory and across Nigeria.
