Donko Care Foundation has restated its commitment to promoting unity among various communities in Aba through sports.
The Chairman of the Foundation, Mr. Roseson Obasi (Donko), stated this at Etche Road Field, Aba, during the kick-off of the Foundation’s Inter-Village Football Competition for various communities in Aba.
Mr. Donko, in his address, said the essence of the competition was not about the prize money but about bringing the various communities together by instilling in them the spirit of unity and harmonious relationships, thereby eliminating unnecessary inter-community rivalries and unhealthy competition.
He further stated that the competition would equally project the unique diversity of Aba as a home of entrepreneurship by inculcating the spirit of peaceful coexistence and developing talents who would become youth ambassadors through sports.
Mr. Donko added that if the objectives were achieved, Aba would become peaceful, and the potential of youths would be harnessed for greatness. He also insisted that much more would be actualized if priority attention were given to sporting activities.
Also speaking at the occasion was the Special Guest of Honour and Member representing Ohafia North State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mandela Obasi, who was represented by his Legislative Assistant, Mr. Dimgba Ejieke. He commended the foundation for the initiative and called for more support and investment in the sports sector as a viable industry that can empower many youths, uplift families, and reduce poverty.
The very entertaining opening match was played between Igbere Village and Item Village. Both teams showed passion and talent as Igbere defeated Item by a goal.
