Former Abia State Governor and lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, on Wednesday hosted a meeting with former state political appointees and government functionaries from his tenure as governor.

The meeting, which brought together several political heavyweights, was held at his Camp Neya country home in Igbere. Attendees included the immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Oye; Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Barr. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha; former Abia State Commissioner for Information and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prof. Anthony Agbazuere; Chief Don Ubani; Hon. Chief P.C. Mba; Pastor Emeka Inyama; and Rev. Mrs Jemimah Ola Kalu.

Others present were former House of Representatives Member, Chief Emeka Stanley; Elder Ralph Egbu; Chief George Nnanna Kalu; Hon. Friday Onukwe; Dame Amarachi; Barr. Emeka Kalu, Ph.D.; Hon. R.N. Nji; Chief Felicia Dimgba, among others.

In his address, Senator Kalu stated that the meeting was not politically motivated but rather a platform to reconnect and foster love and harmony among former colleagues.

According to Kalu, the gathering served as an opportunity for reunion and brotherly interaction, as he emphasised the importance of unity for the progress of Nigeria, and Abia State in particular.

The lawmaker noted that with elections concluded, it was imperative for everyone to support elected officials in delivering the dividends of democracy.

“I haven’t seen so many of you for years, so I decided that the team should come together. I consulted with former governors T.A. Orji, Okezie Ikpeazu, and many others. I know we belong to different political parties, like I am in APC, Oye is in APGA, and others are in LP, PDP, and so on. This is not about politics but about fostering brotherly interactions.

“So, this is our team. Stay where you are, but we must care for each other. Once elections are over, it is time for governance. Support your leaders at all levels. When they don’t perform, you can hold them accountable during elections.”

Speaking on behalf of Abia South Senatorial District, Hon. Emeka Stanley commended Senator Kalu for the initiative, saying: “This is the only way we can work together.”

Chief P.C. Mba and Chief George Nnanna Kalu, on behalf of Abia North Senatorial District, also applauded Senator Kalu for demonstrating leadership. Pastor Emeka Inyama represented Abia Central Senatorial District in his remarks.

Other speakers, including Chief Victor Oye, Barr. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, and Sir Don Ubani, also praised Senator Kalu for organising the meeting and promoting unity among stakeholders.
