Member of the House of Representatives for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Chief Ibe Okwara Osonwa, has condemned the tragic killing of a police officer and the wounding of another following an attack on police personnel at Ugwu Abba, en route to Asaga Ohafia, Ohafia Local Government Area.
In a statement expressing deep sorrow over the incident, Rep. Osonwa described the attack as both a grave concern and deeply unsettling, particularly as it targets those who serve to protect the community.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share this tragic news. The loss of a dedicated police officer and the critical wounding of another is a devastating reminder of the dangers faced by those who dedicate their lives to our safety,” he said.
Rep. Osonwa extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the fallen officer, acknowledging the profound pain of their loss. “Losing a loved one in such a manner is a tragedy beyond words. My thoughts are with the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased as they navigate this difficult time. We must honour the brave service their loved one provided to our community,” he added.
In his statement, the lawmaker appealed to the community to come together in a united plea for peace, urging residents to reject all forms of violence and hostility. He emphasised the need for fostering understanding and support to promote a culture of safety and harmony.
“Our actions and words matter greatly, particularly in times of grief. I urge everyone to remain calm and refrain from expressions of anger or retribution. Instead, let us engage in constructive dialogue to address the underlying issues that give rise to such violence,” Osonwa said.
He called on local leaders and stakeholders to work collaboratively towards sustainable solutions that will promote security and stability in the region, particularly as the festive season approaches.
