The lawmaker representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu is fully aware of the hardship and suffering faced by Nigerians, and he is working to ensure that citizens enjoy the dividends of democracy.

While responding to questions on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, the senator dismissed claims that the president is unaware of Nigerians’ struggles, revealing that the president sometimes moves around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at night in his car.

“The president is aware that Nigerians are hungry; he knows Nigerians are suffering. He is a man of the people, familiar with the streets. He visits the FCT and is not a president who stays locked away. Whether there are risks of kidnapping or not, he moves around in his car at night. He is very courageous,” Senator Orji Kalu said.

On his relationship with President Tinubu, Kalu noted that he never had any issues with the president. He recalled how he dropped his ambition for the Senate President position at Tinubu’s request but insisted that he voted for the former Zamfara governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, against Tinubu’s preferred and anointed candidate, Godswill Akpabio, who eventually won.

“I never quarrelled with the president. He asked me not to contest, and I didn’t, but I voted for Yari, and I don’t regret voting for him,” Orji Kalu said.
