BREAKING: DStv Crew Member Heading To Uyo For AFCON Coverage Shot Dead In Attack, 6 Others Rescued

A team of DStv journalists traveling to cover the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier match was ambushed and kidnapped, resulting in the death of one crew member, SaharaReporters has learned.

The Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with joint security forces, successfully rescued six of the kidnapped journalists, according to a report by Sahara Reporters.

The media team was attacked along the Isseke-Orlu Road in Ihiala Local Government Area while en route from Lagos to Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters, stating, “Joint security forces have successfully rescued six members of the media crew who were abducted while traveling from Lagos to Uyo along Isseke-Orlu Road in Ihiala.”

He added that efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue the seventh crew member.

However, Sahara Reporters confirmed that the seventh member, identified as Kay, a technical crew member, has been confirmed dead.

The journalists were on their way to Uyo to cover the Super Eagles’ upcoming AFCON qualifier against Libya on Friday.
