Former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu has urged the people of SouthEast geopolitical zone to unite and support the creation of Anioma State.
Kalu, who is the lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, made the appeal in a video he posted on his official Facebook page while answering questions from newsmen on Wednesday.
He said: “People are calling for the creation of Etiti State, people are calling for the creation of Aba State, Orlu State, and many others. They all sound good. But, for me, the most viable for me—if the other parts of Nigeria want the Southeast to have the sixth state, the most viable of them should be Anioma State from Delta State.
“They are ready to go; it is viable, they are Igbos and they’re not shy of telling anybody that they are Igbos. So, every Igbo man from Imo, Abia, Enugu, Anambra and Ebonyi state should support the (creation) of Anioma State.
“I am a believer of Anioma State, and I will support them anytime. If President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wants to be a good Father Christmas to the Igbos, he should support the creation of the sixth state for the Igbos, and that state should be Anioma state.”
Recall that the senator representing Delta North senatorial district in the National Assembly, Senator Ned Nwoko, had proposed a bill seeking the creation of Anioma State to enable the South-East geopolitical zone to have six states.
The Whisperer reports that the move by Senator Nwoko is stirring mixed reactions due to the proposal for the new state to be grouped together with other states in the SouthEast to make up for the imbalance in the geopolitical zone.
