A few days after the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, announced plans to permanently relocate some key departments from Abuja Headquarters to Lagos, the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, will be following suit.

According to an internal memo dated January 15, 2024, and signed by the managing director and chief executive of FAA, Olubunmi Kuku, the relocation was approved by the minister of Aviation and Aerospace Space Development, Festus Keyamo.

The memo titled RE: RELOCATION OF FAAN HEADQUARTERS FROM ABUJA LAGOS reads,”The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development has directed that the Headquarters of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) should be relocated from Abuja to Lagos.

“Consequent upon the above, you are requested to provide the implications of the relocation to the management.”

The relocation of the CBN headquarters had caused disquiet within the apex bank, saying it would render the headquarters useless.

Some prominent Nigerians, including the Northern Elders Forum, NEF have also faulted the move by the CBN management.

In a statement issued by its spokesman, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, NEF expressed the forum’s concern “about the potential negative impact of relocating these essential departments on both the institution itself and the nation as a whole.”

When contacted, a staff of the communications department told Daily Nigerian that the agency will issue an official statement on the matter soon.
