The Zamfara State government has announced the recovery of 50 operational vehicles in custody of the immediate past governor, Bello Matawalle.

SaharaReporters had reported on December 4, 2023, that the Federal High Court, Sokoto Division ordered the immediate past governor, Matawalle, to return all official vehicles in his possession.

The incumbent administration of Governor Dauda Lawal, had in June 2023 given the former governor and his deputy a five-day ultimatum to return all official vehicles they allegedly took away.

Following Matawalle’s refusal to return the 50 vehicles, the state government sought for the order of court to retrieve the government properties.

Briefing journalists on Thursday, Governor Lawal’s spokesperson, Sani Sambo, announced the recovery of all the fifty vehicles in custody of Matawalle.

Sambo emphasised that the process of recovering the vehicles from the former governor’s residences in Gusau and Maradun was carried out meticulously, as the former governor had previously denied possessing any government property when he left office.

He said that administration of Governor Lawal is committed to achieving the desired development in the state, dispelling the insinuation of a witch-hunt or tarnishing anyone’s reputation.

It should be recalled that after the handing over on May 29, 2023, the Governor Lawal’s administration accused Matawalle of misappropriation of the state funds and other infractions while he held sway.
