The People’s Democratic Party, PDP Abia State has nominated Okey Igwe as the party’s deputy governorship candidate for the 2023 governoship election in the state, THE WHISPERER has learnt.

THE WHISPERER gathered that Igwe’s emergence is the outcome of extensive consultations with stakeholders across the state.

However, a source in the party told THE WHISPERER that “Okey Igwe’s choice didn’t go down well with party leaders”.

The source said: “Most party leaders including youth and women organisations, artisans, market women, the traditional institutions, and other grassroots stakeholders in the state are not comfortable with the choice of Okey Igwe.

“We had thought the governor would consider picking someone from Ohafia which is a stronghold of the party. We were looking at John Okiyi Kalu (JOK), Kingsley Imaga or even Uko Nkole.”

THE WHISPERER reports that Okey Igwe, until his nomination, was a former Executive Chairman of Umunneochi Local Government Area and presently, the Honourable Member Representing Umunneochi State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly and a Lawyer by Profession.
