In penultimate week, precisely on the 15th of January, 2022, a renascent group of progressive Abia professional elites under the aegis of Abia Infrastructure Mandate (AIM) took their infrastructural gospel to governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu in the government official lodge at Aba, the Enyimba City.
The group led by Engr Odo Ijere, and who is also its Convener, met a cheerful and hilarious governor Ikpeazu who took hours to bring the visitors up to speed with his administration’s infrastructural scorecard.
The group which included Abia professionals both at home and abroad engaged the governor in a down to earth and no holds barred discussion on the state of development in Abia State amid poor public perception came out with the hopes that it is not over yet with governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu(PHD), and his government.
In the words of the governor, so much work has been done in Aba infrastructure and so much more work are going on simultaneously to complete his vision of a new Aba that will take back its place as the industrial hub of the southeast.
Here are some of the highlights from the meeting between Abia Infrastructure Mandate and governor Ikpeazu:
1, 46 roads projects are ongoing simultaneously and will be commissioned before the start of the raining season.
2, One lane of the 9kms and impassable Port-Harcourt Road is being reconstructed and soon to be reopened within a few weeks with the other carriage lane to be completed before the end of the year.
3, The World Bank funded Newmap project to channel flood water to Ndiegoro River and reconstruct Ngwa, Ohanku, Obohia, and several other roads enmeshed in floods will soon restart as World Bank has rebuffed calls by enemies of Abia state to have the job cancelled.
4, A promise to see to the completion of Osisioma industrial layout roads access before leaving office by May 2023 in line with his policy thrust to restore the Aba industrial complexes.
5, A plan to complete the dualization of the old Aba Umuahia Road passing through Nsulu.
6, To complete the dualization of Ubakala to Umuwire inside Umuahia.
7, To complete the Ohafia ring Road project started by the previous administrations in the state.
8, To ensure that electric power is served to Aba industrial clusters through his recently signed contract with Geometric Power Company to deliver 24/7 electric power to bouy industrial output in Enyimba City and many more.
The governor in that meeting promised to hold more regular parley with AIM to get to the people and to engage the group to witness the commissioning of projects going on around the state.
