Abia: Reps Member Mascot Ikwechegh Resigns From APGA Hours After Over 90 Officials Dumped Party

A member of the House of Representatives representing Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency, Alexander Mascot Ikwechegh, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) amid a massive wave of defections involving over 90 party executives across the Aba Federal Constituency in Abia State.

The resignation was contained in a letter dated 28 February 2026 and addressed to his ward chairman, where the federal lawmaker announced his immediate withdrawal from the party.

In the letter, Ikwechegh expressed gratitude to APGA for the opportunity to serve and contribute during his time in the party, while wishing the organisation continued progress in its future activities.

His departure came only hours after a large number of party officials from Aba North/Aba South Local Government Areas tendered their resignations, signalling a major political shift within the party’s grassroots structure in Aba.

Among notable party executives who resigned are Hon. Edwin Ehuchie (Bongos), Youth Leader, Aba North LGA; Mr Michael Ada, Woman Leader, Aba South; Mrs Juliana Duruaku, Woman Leader, Aba North; Magnus Onyenaucheya, Vice Chairman, Ariaria Ward 9; Mercy Onyeahala, Woman Leader, Ariaria Ward 9; Hon. Deacon Emeka Okozie, Deputy Chairman, Aba North LGA; Mr Chigozie Alozie, Youth Leader, Ward 12 Aba North; Mr Ibe Osuagwu, Chairman, Ariaria Ward 9; Hon. Victor Urum, Aba North LGA Chairman; and Chisom Amah, Chairman, Eziama Ward 1, Aba North.
