NDDC Commences Five Projects in Ohafia Community Facilitated By Chief Ume Kalu, SAN
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has launched five new projects in Okagwe Community, located within the Owuwa Anyanwu Autonomous Community of Ohafia Local Government Area in Abia State.
Speaking at the well-attended flag-off ceremony held at the Customary Court premises in Elu-Ugwu Layout, Okagwe, Chief Eruba Dimgba, the Abia State representative on the NDDC Governing Board, highlighted the purpose behind the creation of the interventionist agency. He stated that their presence in the community was part of the commission’s ongoing commitment to advancing grassroots development.
Chief Dimgba used the opportunity to praise former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abia State, Chief Umeh Kalu (SAN), whom he noted attracted the project to the community, charging the residents to always pray for him.
Chief Dimgba said; “On behalf of the Managing Director, the Executive Director of the NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, and the Chairman of the Board of the NDDC, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, I sincerely want to thank you for your time, for coming out to make sure that this program today is a success,” he said.
“NDDC, just as you have been informed or you are aware, was borne out of neglect, deprivation and development in our rural communities. That is why NDDC was created in 2004.
“So, today, we are here to carry out the mandate of Mr. President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has given us the mandate, who has charged us into action, into making sure that every nook and cranny of the Niger Delta zone is developed.
“NDDC, hereby, aligned with the Renew Hope Agenda of Mr. President to make sure that the lives of people of the religion are improved. I hope you will enjoy our social amenities.
“We have come to bring good news that NDDC has brought to this community five giant projects. Before I go further, I would like to ask; do you know Mr Ume Kalu? What you owe him is to pray for him.
Continually, pray for this young man. He has brought us here. So, what I would like to say is that I have made a mandate for those projects.
“One, construction of a five-kilometer Agwu Lane to Otutu Road. Two, installation of solar-powered street lights. Three, construction of a town hall. Four, construction of a pavilion. Five installation of solar-powered street light to Nkwebi. NDDC has done very well,” he said.
Speaking afterwards, the Anyanwu of Owuwanyanwu Autonomous Community, Eze Odum Amogu, thanked God for the project and charged the Indigenes to ensure seamless execution of the work
“We thank God for His mercies over this project,” he said.
“With this, development has further entrenched in our community and we thank God for this. I am calling on all Indigenes and residents to join hands and make sure that these projects see the light of the day.
“Let’s shelve the attitude of using our own hands to destroy developmental efforts in our community as they won’t be right for all of us,” he said.
According to Daily Independent, the contractor handling the project revealed that the work would start in earnest shortly, while also praising the former Abia State Chief law officer, Chief Umeh Kalu, who he also credited for the projects to the community.
