Three PDP Senators Dump Party For APC After Meeting President Tinubu

Three serving senators from Kebbi State—Senators Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi North), and Garba Maidoki (Kebbi South)— have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

They were elected on the platform of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The declaration of their intent to defect followed their meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, on Friday.

The Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris; the Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu; and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, were all reported to be present at the meeting, according to PUNCH.

The lawmakers were led to the meeting by the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.

The PDP has been hit with a gale of defections recently.

Recall that the Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, announced the defection of all six Representatives from Delta State from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).Travel guides

He had made this announcement on the floor of the House during plenary.

The six members who defected from the PDP to the APC are: Rep. Victor Nwokolo, Rep. Julius Pondi, Rep. Thomas Ereyitomi, Rep. Nicholas Mutu, Rep. Okodiko Jonathan, and Rep. Nnamdi Ezechi.

The lawmakers blamed the internal crisis in the PDP for their decision.

One of the defectors, Honorable Julius, was quoted by the Speaker as saying: “The subject matter of this announcement is notification of defection from the People’s Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.”

“I want to formally notify the Honorable House of my decision to resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party and to align myself with the All Progressives Congress (APC).”

“The decision has become imperative due to unresolved and deepening issues within the PDP leadership structure both at the national level and zonal level. The party crisis has not only weakened its cohesion but has weakened the ability to represent my constituents,” he noted.

Another lawmaker echoed the same sentiment, also blaming the internal crisis within the PDP for the movement: “The subject matter is an announcement of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress. This is due to the internal issues at the national and South-South regional level. This takes effect from Wednesday, April 30th, 2025,” Hon. Victor stated.
