The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatization and former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has condemned the recent killing of soldiers at a checkpoint in Umuahia. In strong terms, Kalu described the attack as “wicked, evil, and unacceptable.”
The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday morning in Umuopara, Umuahia South Local Government Area, Abia State, where gunmen dismantled a military checkpoint and opened fire on soldiers conducting a stop-and-search operation. Two soldiers lost their lives in the attack.
In a statement from his media office, Senator Kalu extended his condolences to the Nigerian Army and the families of the deceased soldiers. He urged security agencies to intensify efforts to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous act, stressing that armed forces personnel deserve respect and protection given their critical role in national security.
Kalu also called for calm and lawfulness among the people of Abia State, emphasizing that peace is essential for development in the region.
“The killing of soldiers at a checkpoint in Umuahia is barbaric,” he stated. “The perpetrators must be identified for appropriate actions. For the sake of growth and progress of the South East, all hands must be on deck to fish out criminals in the region.”
The senator further urged security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident to prevent any recurrence and prayed for the repose of the departed souls.
