As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the state congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, prominent party leaders have endorsed Chief Barr. Olugu Kalu Ugba (Isi bu mba) as the best candidate to steer the party’s leadership.
In a conversation with our correspondent on Wednesday, the leaders described Ugba as a candidate with the right public service credentials, experience, managerial skills, and leadership acumen to reposition the PDP in Abia State.
Rev. Chika Ubani, from Abia South Senatorial District, said: “If you look at those running against him, you’ll agree with me that Chief Olugu Kalu Ugba is the best for our great party.
“With due respect to others, what Abia PDP needs is a technocrat with a sound background. Someone who can win elections for our party — and that is why we need someone like Chief Olugu Kalu Ugba.”
According to Ubani, the endorsement of Ugba followed critical observation and thorough fact-finding on his person, as well as a careful review of his plans, which, if implemented, would bring electoral success to the PDP in Abia State.
He noted that the decision of the leaders to unite behind Ugba became imperative to avoid losing future elections in Abia State.
Another party chieftain from Abia North Senatorial District and former aide to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Hon. Akuma Akwu, described Ugba’s candidacy as exceptional, saying, “He has the capacity to deliver.”
Similarly, Chief Emmanuel Ndukwe argued that “Olugu Kalu Ugba is credible and the most qualified and prepared of all the aspirants vying for the position.”
“We need someone with a track record capable of repositioning Abia PDP. Chief Olugu Kalu Ugba is the grassroots politician we need right now.
“We are convinced that he can reshape and return Abia PDP to its rightful place. Electing him would be a game-changer for our party in Abia State.”
