The Women’s Wing of Ohafia Improvement Union (OIU), Abuja Branch, has elected Mrs. Kalu Ijomah Georgina as its new president.
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr. Agwu N. Orji, declared Mrs. Ijomah the winner, having defeated Mrs. Nwoke Kalu Nwanneka on Sunday, October 6 2024.
In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Kalu Ijomah stated: “On behalf of the newly elected executive, I sincerely congratulate everyone on a successful election. Thank God it ended in praise. The election has been won and lost. To those who won, it is the beginning of a long journey of shining the light for others to see; to those who couldn’t make it, there are several elections to come. I urge the winners to be magnanimous in victory and those who couldn’t make it to be gracious in their acceptance.
“The political maneuvering, squabbles, and tussles that preceded the election have had the unintended consequence of elevating the OIU Women’s Wing, Abuja, to a prominent position. As a result, it is a win-win for all.
“Once more, I salute you all for conducting yourselves peacefully during and after the election. I commend the courage of the Electoral Committee Members, especially the Chairman, Elder Agwu N. Orji, for working diligently day and night to conduct a free, fair, and acceptable election. Our first course of action now is to start a reconciliation process so that we can move forward in unity and build a better, stronger union.
“To this end, I have begun reaching out, and the responses have been positive. I urge the winners in all positions to do the same. Long live OIU! Long live Iyom Ohafia, Abuja Branch. Ka ni, and God bless you all.”
