The Member representing Arochukwu/Ohfia Federal Constituency, Chief Ibe Okwara Osonwa on Friday hosted the executive members of the National Association of Ohafia Students (NAOS), in a meeting aimed at fostering greater collaboration and addressing the needs of the student community.
During the visit, the student leaders expressed their appreciation for Hon. Osonwa’s ongoing efforts and encouraged him to continue his impactful work. They also presented three key requests, highlighting the challenges faced by Ohafia students and graduates.
The student leaders passionately appealed for the reinstatement of bursaries, emphasizing the financial difficulties many students face in paying their school fees and covering other essential expenses. They lamented the neglect they had suffered under previous officeholders who had refused to grant bursaries, leaving many students in dire straits.
In addition to the bursary, the student leaders requested employment opportunities for graduates within the association, stressing the importance of securing jobs to support their future endeavors.
The association also pledged their unwavering support for Hon. Osonwa, promising to assist him in his initiatives and expressing their confidence in his leadership.
In response, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa expressed gratitude for the visit and assured the students of his commitment to supporting their needs. He promised to work diligently to ensure that bursaries are reintroduced during his tenure. He also pledged to facilitate connections with key state officials, including the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Uche, and Governor Alex Otti, to secure proper recognition and empowerment for Ohafia students within state programs.
Hon. Osonwa further assured the graduates that he would be readily available to provide recommendation letters to help them secure employment in various parastatals. He emphasized his openness to future engagements and welcomed the idea of regular meetings with the student body to ensure continuous dialogue and support. He also endorsed their National Convention for the year 2024 as presented by the President Miss Ukoha Precious Kalu and promised to be present.
