The Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation has undertaken the financial cost of the eye’s surgical operation for Master Peniel Patrick, a minor born in the year 2022.
The foundation dedicated towards the upliftment of the underprivileged in the society paid the full expenses of the operation and the beneficiary Partrick is scheduled to undergo the surgery in the last week of November, 2023 at the Thelish Eye Centre, Garki, Abuja.
Baby Patrick, a native of Egede, in Oju local government area of Benue State was born premature which resulted in him placed in an incubator at birth a move which led to the defection of both of his eyes to excessive exposure to Oxygen while in the incubator.
As gathered from Mrs. Aogo, Mother of the infant , Peniel was born before the 37th week as against the typical pregnancy which lasts about 40 weeks.
She narrated her sad experience; “My son was born premature and due to the nature of his birth, he was placed in an incubator to keep him alive. He is unable to use both of eyes due to the entrapment of the incubator.
On how she discovered the defection, the distraught Mother said that she realised some white substances were covering the pupils of the little boy, which caused the loss of her son’s vision.
She recounted her ordeals; “I observed some white things covering the eyes of my son and found out that those things are not allowing him to see. I met series of doctors who told me that my son would be needing eye surgery if we want him to see and that it must be done now that the boy is still infant”
To restore her son’s vision the Doctors told Aogo that a major operation would cost Millions of Naira, an amount she couldn’t afford due to her poor state.
All efforts made by her to raise the sum proved abortive as she was directed to seek help from numerous places not until she approached the Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation founded by Former Abia Governor and current Abia-North Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu.
Aogo narrated how succor came her way; “I was worried that my son may not be able to use his eyes again because the money for the surgery is on the high side. I tried so many places for help but help seemed far from reach. I was almost giving up, not until I was directed to try this Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation.
“As God may have it, help came as my request was granted by the Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation. They have taken the responsibility and have secured the surgical section for my son.
The now relieved Parent confirmed that the foundation has paid full cost of the eye surgery running into millions.
Aogo appreciated the Foundation and its founder ; The foundation paid fully the cost of the eye surgery for my son and by God’s grace am hopeful that after the surgery, my son may be able to see with his eyes.
“I can not thank the management of the OUK foundation enough, especially, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, who has made this possible, who is touching people’s lives with his foundation. My joy will be complete at the end of this operation, to see my son use his eyes would be my greatest joy .”
