Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Etigwe Uwa has commiserated with the families of the victims of the Ogbor Hill Aba accident, describing it as deeply distressing.
Uwa in a statement signed by him, Wednesday, called for a thorough investigation into the root cause of the accident to guard against further occurrences in the future.
Uwa said: “As I write today, my heart is heavy with grief and deep concern over the fatal accident that occurred in the Ogborhill area of Aba on Tuesday, 14th November, 2023. The news of the tragic loss of innocent lives in our dear state of Abia is truly devastating. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of the deceased, and I extend my deepest condolences to Governor Alex Otti and the entire Abia State Government during this difficult time.
“It is deeply distressing to see precious lives cut short in such a terrible manner. My heartfelt prayers are with those who were injured in this unfortunate incident. I hope for their swift and full recovery and send my best wishes to them and their families as they navigate through this challenging period.
“A thorough investigation into the root cause of the accident is necessary to guard against further occurrences in the future.that keep reoccurring in the Ogborhill area. It is imperative for the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau to immediately investigate the accident and determine remote and immediate cause of the accident with a view to making recommendations which would prevent further occurrences in the future.
“I call on the state government and the Federal Road Safety Corps to invest in the provision of adequate search and rescue equipment and personnel which can quickly be deployed in aid of accident victims.
“This accident which mirrored similar accidents on the Ogbor Hill part of Aba is another reminder of the state of our infrastructure in the state. Whilst there is noticeable progress, the state government is encouraged to double its efforts at infrastructural renewal and development to ease the sufferings of the people and minimize accidents which occur on account of poor infrastructure.
“As a community, it is our shared responsibility to support each other during this trying time. Let us also use this opportunity to renew our commitment to adhering to safety regulations and driving responsibly. We must honor the memory of the departed by taking the necessary precautions to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
“Once more, I pray for the repose of the souls of the deceased and for comfort and strength for their families. My thoughts are with Governor Alex Otti, the Abia State Government, and the people of Abia as we mourn this terrible loss together. Let us unite in our efforts to prevent such devastating incidents from reoccurring in our beloved state.”
