Former Finance Minister, Dr. Kalu Idika Kalu, has disowned a statement credited to him over his alleged admonition to the Anambra State governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo on his verbal attack of the Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.
In a press release, dated November 21, 2022, he personally signed, Dr. Kalu, emphasized that the statement entitled: “Dr. Kalu Idika Kalu, Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance writes to Chukwuma Soludo”, was an abuse of the social media, and a delibrate attempt to misrepresent him.
The statement reads:
“MY ATTENTION HAS BEEN DRAWN to publications in the social media that clearly indicate that I have been grossly and entirely wrongly misrepresented as the “ author” of a much-publicized admonishment to Gov SOLUDO.
” This write up follows his statement that Soludo announced as a Part l , in a comment he issued in reaction to numerous criticisms about his television comments on His Excellency Peter Obi’s claims on investments that he made on behalf of Anambra State during his tenure.
“It should be very apparent by now , that I COULD NOT HAVE AUTHORED THE STATEMENT, that was clearly signed, in effect, by #Obidients , as indicated at the bottom of the statement.
“While I might agree with the sentiment and the core substance of the statement, as evidence my subsequent comments in social media, I would not commit the indiscretion of tacitly speaking to issues that I cannot vouch their veracity , such as, for example, citing names and Organisations that support Peter Obi, some of which I even have no idea about, and, certainly , whom I could not presume to be speaking for.
“I presume that my name has been mentioned by mistake , or, inexplicably, by a deliberate intention to misrepresent me.
“It could be construed as ‘flattering ’ of sorts, but it is WRONG, nonetheless.
“I don’t need it , nor would I encourage or condone this flagrant abuse of , otherwise, very useful media.
“We should ALWAYS endeavor to use it for truth , and honest purposes! BOTH MEN ARE MY FRIENDS AND I WISH THEM WELL IN THEIR CONTINUED EFFORT TO SERVE THE NATION.”
