Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu has won the Abia governorship ticket of the Action Peoples Party (APP).
His victory came weeks after he dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mascot had served as the Chief of Staff to former Governor, Theodore Orji.
He was returned unopposed at the APP primary election held in Umuahia, the capital, on Tuesday.
Mascot was declared winner by a voice vote after his opponent, Ndem Chukwu, stepped down.
In his remarks, the standard bearer assured that he was prepared to rebuild Abia, NAN reports.
