Barring any last-minute change, a gubernatorial aspirant in Abia State, Chief Chikwe Udensi, may dump the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, for the Young Progressive Party, YPP, ahead of the 2023 governorship election.
This emerged after Udensi met with the leadership of YPP in Abuja, according to an online blog, globaltimesnigeria.com.
According to the blog, Udensi’s meeting was aimed at finalizing his move to the party, which he would use to push his 2023 governorship ambition.
Udensi’s intended move was disclosed to the platform by a top party source who refused to be named.
The source said Udensi’s defection would be made public in the next few days.
“We are in deep talks with Udensi, in fact we have almost concluded, in the next few days, we will be reverting to Abians to tell them what understanding we have had with him (Udensi), but I can assure you that he is on his way into YPP.”
A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, who refused to be named told THE WHISPERER that Udensi was uncomfortable following the entrance of some heavyweights into the party.
“The entrance of the Pro- Chancellor of Gregory University, Uturu, Prof. Greg Ibe and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Etigwe Uwa into the party has unsettled him.
“Udensi is likely to leave APGA after the entrance of Prof. Greg Ibe and Mr. Etigwe Uwa SAN into party. Don’t forget that General Ijioma has also indicated interest to fly the party’s flag. It is going to be very tough and difficult one for Chikwe Udensi and his group.
“APGA is going to field the very best as its candidate. Greg is well known in the state and don’t forget he is a big force with his money. Etigwe Uwa is a breathe of fresh air in Abia politics; He is a renowned technocrat and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria with multiple international recognitions.
“Abians are desirous of change and our candidate’s personality must align with what majority of Abians are looking for,” he said.
However, THE WHISPERER could not verify from Udensi to confirm the story as his phone number could not be reached.
