UNICROSS ALUMNI INTERACTIVE SESSION WITH GOVERNING COUNCIL

The Attention of the Leadership of the University of Cross River State has been drawn to a publication on a blogging site erroneously stating that the Leadership has agreed to a proposed conduct of another election to which we believe is to misinform the public and members of our association. Be informed that no such consensus was reached, therefore you’re to ignore both the fake news and it’s purveyors.

While we acknowledge the existence of an interactive session,  we wish to categorically clear the air on the events that characterised the meeting with the Leadership of the Governing Council.

Following an invitation from Council which was aimed at  ascertaining the status of the association, flowing from a previously lodged complaints of civil disagreement by some comrades, the council had taken the step to resolve the issues before them. However, as at the time of the meeting Council was informed that the issues sort to be resolved were already status barred and overran with the turn of events as there is a legitimately elected National Leadership who had also been already inaugurated; hence it was now incumbent to look forward.

Whereas it was also suggested by the Council  Chairman that Fresh Elections be conducted, the Executives of the UNICROSS Alumni quickly assured  council that modalities had already been put in place such as the reconciliation committee saddled with the task of receiving petitions and addressing grievances of anyone or groups to the end that peace now attained will be sustainable. With the committee already receiving positive results in that line of duty.

Furthermore a Six (6) man committee was appointed to review a draft of the constitution presented by Hon. Castro to the Council.  The National President, Comr.  Paul Agwu with nod from the Council Chairman commissioned the Committee led by Mr. Odaji John Idiku as Chairman.

The National President went further to extend membership of the committee to include all members and former NEC members with Mr. Ofut Ogar, Dr. Joe Ubi, Ukam Ngwu, Peter Otu amongst others as members.

The committee terms of reference includes the Review of the draft for easy reference for the constitution drafting committee which will be constituted soon by the NEC.
The committee which became imminent  was in lieu of the lacuna existing in the 2016 constitution.

The position of the National leadership at the meeting was largely centered on its legitimacy from popular mandate, questioned the delay in inviting the association representative to Council meeting. This was cleared by the Chairman that a correspondence from Commissioner for Education in that regard was yet to be received.

The Leadership hereby calls on all well meaning members of the Association and general public to continue to trust in the leadership  and good intentions of Comrade Paul Agwu led NEC.  All dissatisfied members are enjoined to once again put the need for a united front for the association above petty personal interest.

All members are encouraged to freely volunteer themselves and participate in activities of the association aimed at increasing the image and fortunes of our alma mater.
