The National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the recommendations of the Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi-led Zoning Committee, which recommended that the next national chairman of the party should come from the north.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, disclosed the position of the NEC to newsmen after its meeting, held in Abuja on Thursday.
Based on the decision, all positions in the party currently occupied by people from the South will go to the North and those occupied by people from the North will go to the South.
The PDP NEC also retained the date for the party’s convention scheduled for October 30 and 31.
A 45-man zoning committee of the party, had last week recommended the swapping of leadership positions such that those currently being held by Southerners would go the way of Northerners and vice versa.
Earlier, the chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Walid Jibrin, had appealed to party leaders to put national interest and the party’s survival ahead of personal interests as they met to take a decision on the zoning of party offices.
