The Nigerian Association of Christian Journalists (NACJ) has bestowed on Mr. Etigwe Uwa the award of ’Integrity Legal Luminary of the Year 2021′ in recognition of his legal exploits and intellectual contributions to Nigeria society, describing the eminent lawyer as a man of integrity.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria bagged the award during the 9th annual integrity lecture and award themed ‘Integrity is Everything’, organised by the national leadership of the association at Sheraton Hotel, Abuja on Thursday.
The lawyer, who was represented at the event by a retired banker and seasoned technocrat, Mr. Kalu Okpo Kalu( KOK), expressed delight over the award, he said it was a challenge for him to redouble his commitment in serving God and humanity.
The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria had during their 175th anniversary conferred the “Distinguished Leadership Award” on Mr. Uwa based on his commitment to hard-work, excellence, outstanding leadership qualities and tremendous contributions to work of the Kingdom.
Uwa, a ruling Elder of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria among other positions served as Board Chairman of Lekki Parish for good six years with perceptible projects accomplished by the Parish through his visionary and sterling leadership expertise.
The NACJ award has been described by observers as an addition to the number of honours bestowed on the legal icon, who led the team of lawyers that represented the victims of the Pfizer Trovan Drug clinical trial in Kano. 11 of the children who were involved in the trial died on the spot and 189 others had varying degrees of deformity. The case was fought in Kano, Abuja and New York and went up to the United States Supreme Court before a settlement was achieved. That settlement led to the building of a $30 Million ultra Morden diagnostic hospital in Kano and payment of compensation to all the victims of the drug trial.
In attendance at the event was the Minister of State for Mines and Solid Minerals, Dr. Uche Ogah; JAMB Registrar, Prof. Olanrenwaju Oloyede; former Chief Security Officer to General Sani Abacha, Major. Hamza Al-Mustapha; former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Senator Victor Umeh; Real Estate Developer and Consultant, Chief Dike Okoro Uche, among a host of other dignitaries drawn from the private sector, civil society, other professionals and the political class.
