Fourth Republic lawmaker, Senator Biyi Durojaye, is dead.
Sources said Durojaye died in the early hours of Tuesday in Lagos while receiving medical attention.
Durojaiye, 88, was once the Chairman, Board of Commissioners for Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
Announcing his death on facebook, veteran journalist, Bayo Osiyemi wrote;
“SENATOR ‘BIYI DUROJAYE, ILLUSTRIOUS SON OF AROWOSUGBO & LIYANGU, DIES AT 88
“The immediate past chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Senator Olabiyi Durojaye has gone to join his ancestors.
“He died early this morning in a private hospital in Lagos after a brief illness. He was 88.
“A great lover of his community, Ijebu Igbo, he was conferred with the chieftaincy title of Otunba Kolawolu, by the last Orimolusi of Ijebu Igbo, Oba Adetayo Sami for the developmental projects he initiated or collaborated in bringing to the town.
“He is a scion of the illustrious Arowosugbo Dynasty of Ojowo, Ijebu Igbo, and the Liyangu Ruling House of Sagamu, Remo, Ogun State.
“An economist, banker and lawyer, he retired as a director of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the nation’s security printing and minting company.
“Otunba Durojaye was actively involved in the June 12 democracy struggle and was incarcerated for some years by the authoritarian General Sani Abacha regime for his NADECO activism.
“He was a one time president of the prestigious National Institute of Strategic Studies (NIPSS), based in Kuru near Jos.
“Durojaye, the second senator from Ijebu Igbo after the venerated NADECO leader, Abraham Aderibigbe Adesanya, yielded the distinguished Senate seat to two other townmates, Senator Lekan Mustapha and late Senator Buruji Kasamu.”
