The Court of Appeal Friday morning in Calabar has declared Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe as the duly elected senator for the Cross River North senatorial district.
With this Stephen Odey is sacked as senator representing the senatorial district.
The court said he is the lawful candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in the December 5th, 2020 bye-election for the seat.
The three-man panel headed by Hon. Justice Chioma I. Nwosu also invalidated the certificate of return earlier issued to Steven Odey by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC and directed that it be withdrawn.
Reacting to the judgment, Senator Odey described the decision of the Appeal court as a clear rape of justice.
He said, “The verdict of the Court of Appeal judgement in Calabar today is a clear rape on justice and on our nascent democracy, yet we are strong and remain strong going forward. Senator Odey charges all his supporters to be strong and remain law-abiding just as he is strong.
“For the judges to depend on an earlier judgement between John Alaga vs Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe who never contested for the Cross River North Senatorial District By-election is a gross and brazen display of injustice; a broad daylight robbery!
“I appreciate all your dedication and commitment throughout this trying period. Count on my continued love for you all always. Be rest assured that we shall continue to work together as a team and win bigger.”
