Clerks Forum Elects Delta Assembly Clerk Lyna Aliya Ocholor As New Chairperson

The Forum of Clerks of State Houses of Assembly has conducted its maiden general meeting at Reiz Continental Hotel, Abuja on Tuesday.

In his opening remarks, the outgoing Chairman of the Forum who is also the Clerk of the Benue State House of Assembly narrated the achievements recorded since the formation of the Forum.

Declaring the meeting open, the Clerk of the National Assembly commended the Forum for the timely meeting and their contribution towards smooth running of the legislative arms in their respective states and their role in the implementation of financial autonomy to State Legislatures.

The meeting which was held in collaboration with UKaid from British and PERL, was convened to discuss crucial areas of concerns of the moment and election of the new leaders of the Forum.

One of the resource persons invited to the meeting, Dr John Mutu presented a paper on the ‘required frameworks for the protection of the clerks from political and external influences’ in order to enhance effective service delivery.

At the end of the meeting, the Forum elected the Clerk of Delta State House of Assembly Barr. (Mrs) Lyna Aliya Ocholor as Chairperson, Clerk of the Plateau State House of Assembly Punven Wuyep as Deputy National Vice Chairman while Clerk of the Bauchi State House of Assembly Umar Yusuf Gital Esq was elected as Secretary General of the Forum.

Others elected include Clerk of the Enugu State House of Assembly Dr. Emmanuel Udaya as Treasurer, Clerk of the Gombe State House of Assembly Barr. Rukayya Jalo as Vice Chairman Northeast, Clerk of the Kwara State House of Assembly Hajiya Halima Kperogi as Vice Chairman North Central, Clerk of the Kano State House of Assembly Alhaji Garba Bako as Vice Chairman Northwest and the Clerk of the Edo State House of Assembly Alhaji Audu as Vice Chairman South South while Southwest and Southeast will produce vice Chairman each.
