INEC office located at Obollo-Affor gutted by fire.
The office of the Independence National Electoral Commission (INEC) located at Obollo-Afor in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State was Thursday night gutted by fire.
It was however prevented from spreading to the entire building by the combined efforts of the state fire service, the police and the people around the area.
The chief fire officer of the state, Mr Okwudiri Ohaa, confirmed the incident to when contacted. He said, “We deployed fire trucks from Udenu and Nsukka stations to quench the fire. Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi also visited there to ascertain the level of damage.”
The state police public relations officer, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, said the Udenu Police Divisional Headquarters of the state police command got distressed call about the inferno around 2140hrs.
He said, “Operatives attached to the division immediately raced to the scene to put out the fire. Preliminary investigation suggests that the fire may have been caused by power surge due to sudden power supply to the building.”
He said the state commissioner of police, CP Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu, has ordered the cordoning off of the scene and an investigation to ascertain the actual cause of the fire outbreak.
