Many residents of Geidam town in Yobe State no longer have network on their phones as Boko Haram fighters have razed the masts of Airtel and MTN in the town.

Geidam is the home town of the Acting Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba and the immediate former governor of the state, Ibrahim Geidam.

The attackers first struck on Friday evening but they took cover following air strikes from the military.

Ali Maina, one of the residents, said after the Air Force jet which hovered around the town left, the insurgents returned.

He added that “they wreaked havoc on the town this morning. We can see buildings burning and they forced several shops opened carting away food items.

“We are more frightened this time around, because we don’t know their mission. We are cut off from both MTN and Airtel services obviously they have tampered with the system.

“We are currently at the mercy of God praying for protection, they have more than 15 Hilux vehicles. Security forces need to do more to tackle this attacks.”

Meanwhile, the Police spokesman, Yobe State command, Dungus Abdulkarim, has confirmed the attack.

He said letters with mixture of both Arabic and Hausa inscriptions, advocating the establishment of Islamic State, were dropped all over the town by the insurgents.

The insurgents had attacked the town in February and abducted three officers of the Nigerian Custom service.

PDP Accuses Buhari of supporting terrorism

Opposition People’s Democratic Party says with the presidency’s backing of embattled communications minister Isa Pantami who has faced calls for his removal from office over his links with terrorist organisations al-Queda and the Taliban, it is now clear that the Buhari administration has become unpretentious about its support for terrorists and their affiliates.

Pantami: Presidency’s Statement Confirms Sympathy For Terrorism

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the statement by the Buhari Presidency, in which it shows a desperation to provide official cover to a terrorism apologist further confirms public and international apprehensions that the Buhari administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are patronising acts of terrorism in our country.

Nigerians were traumatized that the Presidency could mount a hopeless defence and justification for the actions of the exposed Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, who had already confessed to supporting terrorist groups like al-Qaida and Taliban.

It is instructive to note that this anti-people stance has heightened public anxiety that the Buhari Presidency is a haven for traitors who are providing support to acts of terrorist activities in our nation.

Our party holds that this has further exposed why the Buhari Presidency has failed to decisively confront terrorism as well as why terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and insurgents are emboldened to ravage our nation and massacre our compatriots.

It is inexcusable that the Buhari Presidency is showing grave insensitivity to the fact that thousands of Nigerians have been massacred, maimed and horrified; that hundreds of communities have been devastated and that our nation has been under siege because of the actions and public comments by individuals like Isa Pantami.

Lawyer Calls for Removal, Arrest Of Pantami for comments in support of Boko Haram

Human rights lawyer, Samuel Ihensekhien Jnr. has called for the removal and arrest of Communication Minister, Mr. Isa Pantami for breaching section 5 of terrorism amendment and prevention act, 2013.
